HOW TO MAKE GLUTEN FREE WITCH’S BROOMS

Step 1: Assemble Ingredients

Because you’ll be working with melted chocolate, it’s easiest if you set out all the ingredients you’ll need so you can quickly assemble.

If kids will be helping, you can assign them each to a specific part or give them a portion of supplies to make their own.

  1. Put pretzel sticks in a bowl.
  2. Unwrap mini Reese’s peanut butter cups and place top down with the small side up.

Step 2: Melt Chocolate

Since it’s such a small amount, I just melted the chocolate chips in the microwave.

To melt in the microwave: pour chocolate chips into a small microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on 50% power for 30 seconds, then stir thoroughly. If they’re not completely melted, microwave at 50% power for 15 second increments, stirring after each, until melted.

To melt on the stove top: warm chocolate chips in a small saucepan over low heat. Stir continuously and remove from the heat when the chocolate chips are almost melted. Continue to stir and they will finish melting.

PRO TIP: Be careful not to overcook chocolate, as it will become to hard to work with and/or burn.

Step 3: Assemble Witches’ Brooms

For each witch’s broom, dip one end of a gluten free pretzel stick into the melted chocolate so 1/2 inch is covered in a thick layer of chocolate.

Immediately press the chocolate-dipped end gently into the bottom of a mini Reese’s cup. You won’t be inserting the pretzel rod, just indenting it a little bit so they will stick together.

PRO TIP: If you insert the pretzel stick too far, it might split the Reese’s cup.

Step 4: Finishing Touches

If you want, you can generously sprinkle some fun Halloween sprinkles onto the melted chocolate on the finished Witch’s brooms.

This is easiest to do if the chocolate has had a chance to set a little, but is still melted enough for the sprinkles to stick.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Are Reese’s Cups Gluten Free?

All Reese’s Cups, including mini Reese’s cups, are gluten-free, with the exception of seasonal shapes such as ghosts, pumpkins, or trees, which are not gluten-free.

Where Can I Find Gluten Free Pretzels?

Snyder’s gluten-free pretzels can be found at Walmart and most other grocery stores. Some stores, including Trader Joe’s, also carry other brands such as Fit Joy, Quinn, or Glutino.
I don’t love the texture of Glutino, Snyder’s are my favorite.

Can I Make Witch’s Brooms with Cheese Instead of Reese’s Cups?

Witch’s brooms can easily be made with gluten-free pretzels sticks, mozzarella cheese sticks, and chives.

To assemble, Take a gluten free pretzel stick and push half a string cheese onto one end. This will be the broom’s bristles.
Use a chive to tie around the top of the mozzarella, creating the broom’s handle.
