INGREDIENTS IN CHUNKY MONKEY PROTEIN ICE CREAM

You only need a few simple ingredients to make this super creamy chunky monkey protein ice cream.

You’ll also love that there is no heavy whipping cream and no added sugar, making this a healthy option for breakfast (or dessert!)

***Ingredient amounts and instructions are in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

FOR THE ICE CREAM

ripe bananas

You’ll want to use a banana that is ripe, but not over-ripe. The recipe is fairly forgiving, but try to use bananas that are yellow without much green or brown.

You’ll need 1 large banana, I recommend weighing the banana to be sure you have the right amount.

milk

I like to use whole milk in my Ninja Creami protein ice cream recipes because it makes for the best texture, but you can also substitute a dairy-free milk if needed.

My favorite dairy-free milk for Ninja Creami recipes is Oatly full-fat oat milk (which is certified gluten free)

protein powder

The addition of protein powder in Ninja Creami recipes not only adds extra nutritional value to keep you full longer, it also contributes to a super creamy texture!

I list all my favs, including dairy-free options, in the recipe card below.

MIX-INS

walnuts

You’ll find walnuts in the classic Ben and Jerry’s treat also, because they pair so well with bananas!

If you don’t like walnuts, you can sub for your favorite nut (pecans also taste great) or just leave them out.

chocolate chips

You can use mini chocolate chips or full-size, depending on what you like. I love to add dark chocolate, but you can use whatever chocolate you like including a sugar-free or dairy free chocolate chips.

Place the lid tightly and be sure to freeze on a level surface. Freeze for at least 8 hours.

Ninja Creami Chunky Monkey Protein Ice Cream Step 4: blend

Step 4: Process ice cream

When you’re ready for ice cream, take the pint container out of the freezer and process using “lite ice cream” setting.

If the ice cream is crumbly on top, use the re-spin setting.

If you’re using dairy-free ingredients, you might need to add a splash of dairy-free milk before re-spinning.

Ninja Creami Chunky Monkey Protein Ice Cream Step 5

Step 5: Add mix-ins

There should be a hole in the center of your ice cream pint. If there isn’t a hole, use a spoon to make one in the center of the pint, all the way to the bottom.

Add chocolate chips and walnut pieces and process using the “mix-ins” option

HOW TO STORE

Ninja Creami ice cream is best if consumed immediately after churning.

If you have leftovers, smooth the ice cream so that it’s level on top, cap with the lid, and freeze on a level surface.

You can then process again using the “lite ice cream” function.

Notes

Milk Options

I recommend using whole milk for the creamiest texture.

To Make Dairy-Free

Use a dairy-free milk such as Oatly full fat (the higher fat content makes for a creamy texture) and dairy-free protein powder. Be sure it's one you like as the flavor will come through! I recommend Truvani or Just Ingredients, linked below.

Protein Powder

I love the flavor of Clean Simple Eats protein powder, and it makes for such a creamy texture! I've linked it below.

If Ice Cream is Crumbly

If your ice cream is crumbly on top after the first cycle, just hit the re-spin button. You can also add a splash of milk to soften.

I have found that dairy-free options tend to get more crumbly; using a df milk with higher fat content such as Oatly full fat can help with that, as can a couple re-spins.
