Gluten Free Halloween Brownies
Get ready to sink your fangs into the most spooktacular treats this Halloween!
If you’re on the hunt for fun-filled Halloween dessert recipes, our Gluten Free Halloween Brownies are here to cast a spell on your taste buds.
I started with my favorite brownie recipe for tahini brownies, sans tahini, and added some fun toppings to make a monster array.
My kids and their friends went wild over these and we did not have leftovers, they are the ultimate fudgy brownies that adults will love too!
Here’s a few reasons you’re going to LOVE these Halloween Brownies:
- This is a flourless recipe, so you don’t have to worry about which gluten-free flour to use and can easily make it even if you’re not gluten-free.
- The brownies are deliciously fudgy!
- If you want to makes this gluten free brownie recipe even easier, use a boxed brownie mix! King Arthur’s gluten-free brownie mix is my favorite, and Cup4Cup gluten-free mix is also good.

HOW TO MAKE HALLOWEEN BROWNIES
Step 1: Preheat and Line Your Pan
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F and prepare an 8″ square baking pan by lining with parchment paper.
PRO TIP: Cut a piece of parchment paper into a square that is slightly larger than your pan. Wad it into a tight ball then unfold and flatten. It will be much easier to line your pan!
Step 2: Make the Brownies
- Melt the chocolate and butter (or coconut oil) over low heat just until melted. Stir it constantly and remove from heat when the chocolate is almost melted, it will continue to melt as you stir it.
- In bowl of stand mixer (you can also use a regular electric mixer), combine eggs, sugar, and brown sugar. Mix on medium-high for 4-5 minutes until light and smooth. Mixture should be about double in size and a pale yellow.
- Mix in salt, vanilla, and melted chocolate on medium-low, scraping sides with a spatula as needed, until smooth and combined.
- Add cocoa powder and mix until smooth.
- Spread brownie batter into prepared pan.
PRO TIP: This is a flourless brownie recipe that gets its structure from beating the eggs, so be sure to mix for the full amount of time.
Step 3: Bake the Brownies
Bake for 20-25 minutes until toothpick inserted comes out with fudgy crumbs. Be careful to not over-bake!
Step 4: Top the Brownies
Within 10 minutes of removing your brownies from the oven, top with your candy.
We used Reese’s Franken Cups, small Reese’s cups, Reese’s Pieces, and candy Googly eyes. I broke it up a little by cutting some of the Reese’s cups.
I recommend starting with the big pieces first, then filling in the gaps with smaller candies.
Press the candies into the brownies just a bit so they will stay in place.
PRO TIP: Note that Reese’s cups and Franken cups are gluten-free, but seasonal shapes like ghosts and pumpkins are not gluten-free.
Step 5: Cool Before Serving
Allow the brownies to cool before serving. This is the hardest part! You can serve while the chocolate is still a little melty because it’s delicious that way.
HOW TO STORE
Store gluten-free monster brownies in an airtight container or cover the pan tightly with plastic wrap. You can keep them on the counter for 2-3 days, or freeze for longer.
VARIATIONS
There are lots of fun ways to dress up these flourless brownies for the Halloween season!
- Make gluten free mummy brownies by placing cut brownies on individual plates (make sure they’re completely cooled before slicing). Fill a piping bag with white vanilla frosting and a thick tip, then drizzle the frosting across to make a mummy. Top with eyes.
- Make spider web brownies by using a white chocolate drizzle in spider web patterns on top. Be sure to cool the brownies completely first!
- Make spooky Halloween treats by cooling the brownies completely, then using Halloween cookie cutters to cut out fun shapes. Freeze until solid, then dip in chocolate ganache and top with cute Halloween sprinkles.
CAN I MAKE THIS DAIRY FREE?
Yes, gluten-free Halloween brownies are easy to make dairy-free.
Simply use coconut oil or a dairy free butter substitute (I love Melt brand) and top with dairy-free candies such as Unreal peanut butter cups
CAN I MAKE THIS EGG FREE?
I have not tried an egg-free substitute for this recipe, although aquafaba might have similar results to the eggs.
If you try it, let me know!
