This delightful 26 grams of protein per serving, this Ninja Creami key lime pie protein ice cream is the perfect treat or breakfast! It’s made with a Greek yogurt base and is SO good, my tween loves prepping a few pints on Sunday for filling breakfasts throughout the week.
NINJA CREAMI KEY LIME PIE ICE CREAM
This Ninja Creami key lime pie protein ice cream is the newest addition to my protein ice cream obsession, and has taken the Ninja Creami community by storm!
You only need 4 ingredients to make a super creamy protein ice cream that taste just like key lime pie, and you won’t even need heavy cream or added sugar (don’t worry though, I promise it still tastes just as good)
I quickly discovered that it is SO easy to make healthy protein ice creams that also taste absolutely amazing using the Ninja Creami ice cream maker (which is my new fav kitchen appliance), and the protein powder is what makes the texture sooo creamy!
All of my recipes are kid-approved and enjoyed by the whole family, which speaks volumes when you have an age range of toddler to almost-adult.
If you’ve tried my Ninja Creami orange julius protein ice cream or Ninja Creami chunky monkey ice cream, you know just how good this homemade ice cream is!
This key lime pie version is my tween’s and teenager’s favorite, and they like to prep a few pints over the weekend for quick and filling breakfasts before school.

INGREDIENTS IN NINJA CREAMI PROTEIN ICE CREAM
You only need four ingredients to make this key lime pie ice cream recipe! Of course, if you want to jazz it up a bit you can add some fun toppings like gluten-free graham cracker crumbs and whipped cream.
Tiny tropical umbrellas are optional but so, so fun 😉
***Ingredient amounts and instructions are in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
Milk
I recommend using whole milk. I’ve tested my recipes with regular Fairlife and 2%, and whole milk works best.
If you would like added protein and less sugar, you can use the Fairlife whole milk.
A full-fat oat milk would probably work as well.
vanilla protein powder
I love Just Ingredients protein powder which is gluten-free and has simple, real ingredients. I’ve also had good results with Clean Simple Eats.
lime juice
You can use key lime juice from a bottle or fresh key limes, or you can use regular lime juice.
key lime pie Greek yogurt
I used Chobani brand key lime pie Greek yogurt.
TOPPINGS FOR SERVING
While this Ninja Creami key lime pie protein ice cream is SO good on its own and you can eat it straight from the jar, it’s super fun to dress up! Try some of these toppings/mix-ins.
whipped cream
You can use a dollop of fresh whipped cream or a squirt of Reddi Whip. Either way, this one is a great addition!
If this is your first time making your own whipped cream, try this recipe for Homemade Whipped Cream
graham cracker crumbs
I used Simple Mills Sweet Thins which taste like Teddy Grahams and are our fav graham cracker substitute. I just popped them in a food processor for a few seconds then sprinkled them on after topping the ice cream with whipped cream.
mix-ins
If you want the experience of graham cracker crust in your key lime pie protein ice cream, go ahead and make the recipe as directed.
After the first spin, make an indent in the middle of the ice cream almost all the way to the bottom, and drop a few graham cracker pieces inside (I used gluten-free). At this point you can also add a few small chunks of frozen cream cheese (use whole fat and freeze in 1 teaspoon portions) for a key lime cheesecake flavor.
Use the mix-in setting, then top with whipped cream and additional graham cracker crumbs, and enjoy!
My kids also like to add white chocolate chips as a mix-in.
HOW TO MAKE KEY LIME PIE PROTEIN ICE CREAM IN THE NINJA CREAMI
This recipe does require a Ninja Creami ice cream machine, I haven’t tried it using a regular ice cream maker or any other method.
While the ice cream mixes in mere minutes (2-3), you’ll need to allow time for the mixture to freeze overnight or for at least 8-10 hours.
Full ingredients and instructions are in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
Step 1: make ice cream base
In a Ninja Creami pint container, combine whole milk, vanilla protein powder, lime juice, and key lime pie Greek yogurt using a whisk, immersion blender, or frother.
You can also add a splash of vanilla extract or a small amount of vanilla bean paste to enhance the flavor, but it tastes great as-is.
The mixture should be smooth and a little frothy.
Step 2: freeze
Top the pint container with a lid, label, and freeze overnight or for at least 8 hours.
PRO TIP: Removing the jar from the freezer 5-10 minutes before processing can help you avoid the need for a re-spin.
Step 3: process
When you’re ready for protein ice cream, remove the lid from the pint container, place bowl assembly into the machine and twist until it clicks.
Use the lite ice cream function to process.
If the ice cream is a bit crumbly on top, just add a splash of milk or key lime pie yogurt, and use the re-spin function.
Step 4: add mix-ins optional
Use any or all of the suggested mix-ins listed above, adding them to a hole you’ve created in the center of the ice cream. Process on mix-ins.
Step 5: serve
Serve your Ninja Creami key lime pie protein ice cream with whipped cream and graham cracker crumbs if you would like, or just eat it straight from the jar!
This recipe makes 2 servings with 26 grams of protein each.
HOW TO STORE LEFTOVERS
Store leftover tamale pie in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4-5 days.

I have not tried making this recipe dairy-free
Can I use another flavor of yogurt?
You can! Try using a lemon Greek yogurt and swapping lemon juice for the lime juice.
Can you store leftover Ninja Creami?
Yes, you can store leftover Ninja Creami ice creams. smooth out the top so it is even, then top with the lid and pop back in the freezer. Process as normal. I find that leftovers that are banana based don’t re-spin quite as well.

Ninja Creami Key Lime Pie Protein Ice Cream

Ninja Creami Tips:
I've found that whole milk works best for Ninja Creami ice cream, and gives it the creamiest texture.
I used the Chobani Greek key lime pie ice cream, that has a little added sugar. I'm not sure how it would work with a different type especially if it is sugar-free.
My favorite way to mix up Ninja Creamis is with an immersion blender. A whisk or frother will also work.
If you remove the Ninja Creami pint from the freezer 5-10 minutes before processing, it's less likely to be crumbly and need a re-spin.
I purchased additional pints (linked below) and love to make these in batches over the weekend so we have easy treats/breakfasts throughout the week.

Do you have any suggestions on skipping the vanilla protein powder, if could just add pudding mix? I have some of the ratio protein key lime yogurt which are 25g each and just wondered if it’s been experimented a bit or what could go in place of the protein powder if it’s just solely for the protein or some thickening as well.

I do love the texture with protein powder, but you could try skipping it and let me know.

Sounds great. There is a company that sells a key lime protein powder that might contribute to the process. It's name is Clean Simple Eats. I have no affiliation with the company, but I do like their products.
